SF Preview and Listening Party at KALW Event Space April 10

March 31, 2025

Join us for a preview party to celebrate the launch of our new immersive San Francisco histories!

Join us at the KALW Event Space (220 Montgomery Street) on Thursday, April 10 from 6-8pm. RSVP here >>

Through dramatic audio and Extended Reality(XR) scenes, our self-guided walks invite locals and visitors to step into history and uncover stories of exclusion, displacement, and resilience — right in the SF and LA neighborhoods where it all took place.

Free immersive tours will launch in mid-April. Join us for a special preview and listening party to:

  • Explore immersive scenes from our neighborhood experiences in Chinatown, Japantown and the Fillmore
  • Hear stories from SF chefs and restaurateurs featured in our Melting Spots food map of immigrant eats
  • Learn more about the California Migration Museum and why our creative work in telling California’s story is especially critical right now
  • Listen to a live performance by musician Alex Wong, narrator of the California Migration Museum's Chinatown experience

At a time when immigrant history is at risk of being erased and many museums are struggling to stay open, the California Migration Museum’s free, immersive experiences center the voices of immigrants and refugees. We help make history something you can see, hear, feel and taste.

Sneak peek: Explore three teaser scenes that drop you into the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake in Chinatown, the Japanese internment order on May 1, 1942 , and the first immigration raid in the US — right from your mobile phone.

Join us at 6pm to toast the launch with wine & beer, listening party program and live performance begins at 6:30pm. Tickets are free, with a sliding scale suggested donation to support KALW and the California Migration Museum. RSVP here >>
